The Importance of Sharing
The First Baptist Church of Vallejo sustained heavy damage in the recent Napa earthquake. We at First Christian Church sustained some minor damage, but nothing like what their church went through and we were amazed at how their church continues to serve the community in spite of their situation. They house The Sparrow Project, a separate nonprofit organization whose purpose is to feed and help those in need.
The Sparrow Project's soup kitchen provides meals six days a week. They also give out clothes daily to those in need. They not only serve the homeless, but also families in need with children stop by frequently for food or clothing. Despite the damage to their building, they continue to help people as they can.
We always try to strive as a church to work ecumenically with other churches in our community, so we felt it very important to help out First Baptist Church's effort. To that end, we recently made a special financial contribution to The Sparrow Project. And we encourage our members to do what they can to support this worthy cause.
